yini – vine
Yini were used for food, medicines, making string and using the flower nectar for drinks and sweeteners, with the pepper vine having fruit that could also be eaten. The leaves of the Dodonaea triquetra were chewed for toothache relief, a poultice could also be made from the leaves to apply to wounds from stonefish and stingrays, and the roots were used for open cuts. Liquid from soaked Dodonaea triquetra roots was also used as a sponge to relieve fevers. Fibers from vine stems were used to weave fine nets and string.
